Job Summary

College of the Canyons is seeking adjunct faculty members in Ethnic Studies to join our team. As an adjunct instructor, you will play a vital role in shaping the educational experience of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Ethnic Studies courses at the Valencia or Canyon Country campus, or other college teaching locations.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote student learning and success.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional activities, such as curriculum development and committee work.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Possession of an unexpired California Community College Instructor Credential in Ethnic Studies.
  • OR - Master's in an Ethnic Studies discipline.
  • OR - A Master's Degree in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies.
  • OR - Equivalency: An official transcript documenting successful completion of any Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education AND official transcripts documenting successful completion of 24 semester units in the discipline at the upper division and graduate level, a minimum of which must be 12 graduate level semester units.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent experience working with diverse student populations and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of traditionally minoritized students within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support underrepresented students.
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
  • Experience in culturally responsive teaching in Ethnic Studies, particularly as it relates to relevance of Ethnic Studies to students' lives, interests, and communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.
Working Conditions

Assignments may include Monday through Friday (day and evening), as well as Saturday classes.

Salary and Benefits

Starting at $88.30 per hour.
