Job Summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our Nursing Executive Team, you will be responsible for managing, planning, and organizing nursing care to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines, and applicable standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the work of nursing personnel to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans to meet the needs of patients.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Chief Nurse Executive-Inpatient and medical staff to establish clinic objectives.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with Joint Commission accreditation standards.
  • Perform nursing care duties and maintain nursing skills to cover staff shortages.
  • Manage the clinical unit by providing adequate staffing, unit organizational functions, and unit safety.
  • Resolve grievances and complaints in a fair and timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, performing administrative, coordinating, and directing clinical nursing activities.

Working Conditions:

This position is located in a Federally operated hospital and requires full vaccination for COVID-19 before entry on duty or approval of a medical or religious exemption.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.

IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
