Job Overview

Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing the repair and upkeep of machinery and equipment within the designated division, in accordance with the company's maintenance protocols. This role requires sound judgment to enhance equipment reliability through efficient and cost-effective practices.

Reporting Structure: This position does not have any direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and oversees the daily maintenance activities of division personnel.
  • Engages with suppliers, negotiates costs, and obtains repair estimates from external vendors, while relaying this information to the Equipment Manager and other operational managers.
  • Evaluates work to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Oversees the sanitation of equipment.
  • Travels to various project sites as necessary.
  • Assigns and monitors daily maintenance tasks for division staff and manages additional maintenance initiatives.
  • Instructs team members on proper maintenance and minor repair techniques, ensuring timely communication with management and the mechanical department.
  • Supervises shop crew activities, including the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Assesses equipment for adherence to operational standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Tracks oil samples and repair requests for the division.
  • Oversees facility maintenance operations.
  • Acquires necessary materials, supplies, and services in appropriate quantities at competitive prices.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local suppliers and equipment distributors.
  • Informs the Equipment Manager when equipment is taken out of service and provides updates on repair status, while also communicating relevant issues to division operations staff.
  • Performs additional related duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Educational Background: High School diploma or equivalent.

Certifications: Not applicable.

Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant mechanical experience or training, or a combination of education and experience in fleet management or mechanical fields. Familiarity with state permit regulations and procedures is essential.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in the repair and maintenance of heavy machinery, tractors, and fleet vehicles.
  • Capable of diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Able to instruct others in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and tractor trucks.
  • Understanding of state permit regulations and procedures.
  • Effective time management skills for scheduling maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledgeable in vehicle parts procurement processes.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. The position may require long and irregular hours, including 24-hour on-call availability.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings. Regular exposure to a noisy environment, moving mechanical parts, elevated locations, and varying weather conditions. There may be some exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, and vibrations.

This position collaborates with all corporate and field personnel.
