Summary:
As a Business Instructor at Louisburg College, you will be responsible for teaching Business classes, including Intro to Business and Business Communications. You will also advise students, provide service to the College, and complete professional development in your field of study. You will perform duties as described in the job description, demonstrate a commitment to the College's mission, promote high ethical standards, and foster an atmosphere of collegiality. In addition, you will teach at least 15 credits per semester, 30 credits per year, and maintain the ability to teach undergraduate courses according to SACSCOC.
This position is on-campus only. Louisburg College does not have any online opportunities at this time.
Responsibilities:
1. Promote and uphold the college's mission.
2. Maintain the ability to teach undergraduate courses according to SACSCOC.
3. Teach at least 15 credits per semester, 30 credits per year. Advise students.
4. Prepare course material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
5. Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students on topics such as American and ancient history, postwar civilizations, and the history of countries affiliated with the United States.
6. Support the mission of Louisburg College.
7. Provide active support for all planning, accreditation, and assessment tasks.
8. Participate in scheduled campus faculty development opportunities and workshops (including the Quality Enhancement Plan).
9. Support academic governance by serving on College committees and task forces.
10. Remain engaged in the campus community by supporting academic events, athletic events, convocations, faculty meetings, and the College's chapel program.
Faculty may also be required to attend other academic events, at the request of the Vice President for Academic Life. Maintain effective communication with the College via the Vice President of Academic Life.
During the academic year and summer, the official form of communication between the College and the faculty is via campus e-mail and so it is important for the faculty to check and respond to their College e-mail frequently.
Spend at least 30 hours each week on campus involved in providing effective, relevant instruction and performing other College responsibilities, while spending 10 hours each week on campus providing office hours to students.
Other duties, as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Life.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Business or an appropriate closely related field; Doctorate preferred.
2. Must have earned 18 graduate credits in Business.
3. Meet the SACSCOC criteria for teaching undergraduate courses.
4. Documented effective, relevant teaching is required and work experience in higher education is preferred.
5. Documented experience working successfully within a diverse student body.
6. Technology experience required. Demonstrate proficiency in the following – Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
7. Passion for learning and for seeking creative ways to teach students how to learn.
8. Evidence-based ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
9. Excellent and effective communication, planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
10. Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy required.
11. Ability to be sensitive and respond appropriately to the needs and concerns of students.
12. Foster and maintain a positive atmosphere to ensure all interactions are handled with the highest level of professionalism.
13. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
14. Ability to multitask and be team-oriented.
15. Ability to maintain confidentiality for sensitive information.
16. Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
The performance of some aspects of the position may require a non-traditional work schedule to include some early morning or evening hours, and occasional weekends.
