Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to join our team at Virginia Jobs. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our in-house and hosted environment computer software systems and network connections to ensure stable operations, high levels of availability, and security of our supported business applications and agency IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, support, and optimize key functional areas, particularly network infrastructure, server infrastructure, data communications, and telecommunications systems.
  • Schedule and direct activities to resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provision, manage, monitor, and decommission cloud services.
Requirements
  • Working technical knowledge of in-house network, PC, server, and platform operating systems.
  • Extensive application support experience.
  • Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including firewalls, Active Directory, and telecommunications systems.
  • Strong system administration skills at the command-line level.
  • Experience with running and maintaining scripting languages, such as PowerShell, Puppet, and Chef.
  • Strong knowledge of network administration and telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles.
  • Ability to make sound and logical judgments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations for the purpose of creating needs assessments, budgets, and so on.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
Education and Experience
  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 4 years equivalent work experience.
