Overview:
The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by ensuring that all patients seeking services are registered efficiently and accurately. This position is dedicated to gathering comprehensive demographic, financial, and medical data from patients, enhancing their overall experience within the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Engage with patients during the registration process to foster a welcoming atmosphere.
2. Ensure proper patient identification and collect detailed demographic information.
3. Verify insurance details and assess eligibility and benefits.
4. Determine and communicate patient financial responsibilities.
5. Refer patients to financial specialists when necessary for assistance.
6. Complete patient registration and financial clearance in emergency settings.

Essential Duties:
The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for:
- Accurately entering registration information into the electronic health record system, following established protocols to prevent errors.
- Reviewing and rectifying any discrepancies in demographic and insurance data to avoid delays in billing.
- Ensuring compliance with registration protocols for emergency department patients.
- Collecting necessary signatures and completing required forms, including those related to Medicare and HIPAA regulations.
- Providing patients with information regarding their rights, responsibilities, and available financial assistance.
- Documenting insurance verification details, including deductibles and copayments, in the electronic health record.
- Calculating patient liabilities and collecting payments at the time of registration.
- Delivering exceptional customer service to all patients and visitors, assisting them as needed and managing visitor flow in accordance with hospital policies.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Associate Degree or Certification in Health Care Administration.

Experience:
- Required: Minimum of 1 year in customer service within a healthcare environment; 6 months of experience in a healthcare office.
- Preferred: Familiarity with medical terminology; 1 year of experience in patient registration or revenue cycle management.

Licensure/Certification:
- Required: None specified.
- Preferred: Certification in Health Care Access (CHAA, CAA).
