We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate Environmental Forensic Chemist to join our team at Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. As a key member of our Environmental Standards Forensic team, you will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Becoming familiar with our administrative personnel and department capabilities, including corporate personnel policies and procedures, timekeeping and expense accounting procedures, project accounting and time reconciliation procedures, etc.
- Becoming familiar with our Business Development personnel and department capabilities, including specific knowledge of how to utilize our Customer Relations Management (CRM) software, sales experience and practices of the firm's Business Development personnel, and the resources available for Business Development purposes.
- Becoming familiar with our established areas of practice, namely Chemistry, Environmental Health and Safety (EHSS), and Environmental Data Management to a level adequate to identify potential opportunities and to sell these services.
- Reviewing and becoming familiar with Chemistry Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to data validation, site assessment activities, and corporate Health and Safety protocols.
- Demonstrating industry-leading understanding of the principles of analysis, the requirements for compliance and admissibility, and the procedures for validation.
- Observing, if available, laboratory audits conducted to determine laboratory compliance with The Technical Requirements for Analytical Laboratories (TNI) Standard, ISO/IEC 17025, Technical Specification Manuals, and other documented quality management systems.
- Participating as a senior team member in environmental and environmental forensic data review and interpretation projects.
- Becoming familiar with our Consulting Chemistry, EHSS, and Data Management practices, including a clear familiarity with the staff and their professional capabilities, the types of project work the practice has performed, and the types of clients the corporation has worked for (including the names of the leading active clients).
- Engaging industry contacts to actively sell services offered by Montrose Environmental Group, Inc.
- Identifying ways our services can be used in chemical forensic applications to industries nationwide.
- Providing project management and function as a leader in laboratory procedural review and environmental data interpretation for a variety of established analytical methods, including organic and inorganic analytes.
- Demonstrating industry-leading understanding of the principles of analysis, the requirements for compliance and admissibility, and the procedures for validation.
- Conducting, when assigned, laboratory audits to determine laboratory compliance with The TNI Standard, ISO/IEC 17025, Technical Specification Manuals, and other documented quality management systems.
- Preparing and providing authoritative supervision on the preparation of program quality documents, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), Quality Management Plans (QMPs), and Technical Specification Manuals.
- Providing meaningful technical and marketing support during the growth of the company's Chemistry practice, and taking responsibility for identifying, screening, and training new hires in the discipline.
- Actively participating in business development and growth initiatives for the environmental forensics practice, including meeting sales goals.
- Identifying qualified leads and developing successful proposals to establish a book of work for yourself and junior staff.
- Attending/supporting client meetings arranged by Business Development staff as requested.
- Attending business and industry meetings as needed and requested.
- Attending at least one (1) educational seminar per quarter to stay abreast of applicable regulatory changes, technological changes, or industrial needs.
- Presenting at least two (2) professional papers at relevant industry conferences/trade shows.
- Maintaining or exceeding external client billability goals with the balance of time dedicated to effective sales efforts. Annualized performance goals will be determined for revenue, net labor multiplier, revenue-generating hours, and others as determined annually.
Typical clients include multinational corporations, retail, industrial and energy companies, as well as legal firms and others who provide support in these areas.
About the RoleTypical forensic and other consulting projects involve:
- Establishing forensic project objectives with the client.
- Specifying data and related requirements relative to investigative needs.
- Recommending and vetting laboratory providers.
- Ensuring validity and usability of laboratory data.
- Evaluation and interpretation of data/information.
- Development of conclusions and documentation of supporting evidence.
- Written and oral communication of project outcomes.
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, or an allied science from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of environmental analytical data validation experience, or environmental analytical laboratory experience focused on Quality Assurance (QA) or client services/project management.
- Minimum of 5+ years of environmental chemical forensic data interpretation experience.
- Strong grasp of statistical data evaluation techniques.
- Strong understanding of US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methods for the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.
- Strong understanding of interpretation and data usability assessment.
- Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and their application to environmental data review.
- Strong English written and oral communication skills.
- Established track record of preparing and delivering technical presentations at industry events and/or client sites.
- Ability to travel throughout North America to present at client and industry events.
- Able to review environmental laboratory data for completeness; correctness; compliance against the published analytical methods; and usability by utilizing corporate data validation standard operating procedures, US EPA data validation guidelines, and Quality Assurance Project Plans.
- Familiarity with environmental data management systems such as Environmental Quality Information System (EQuIS) and Envirodata strongly desired.
- Familiarity with automated data review tools strongly desired.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Acrobat.
- Meticulous attention to detail and ability to focus on individual tasks while collaborating with your peers.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
- Participating in Company's continuous improvement programs and provides support to team efforts.
- Keeping up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
