Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Cath Lab Pre/Post department at The University of Kansas Health System utilizes the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. This role requires a holistic and systematic approach to provide safe, therapeutic care. The RN integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to hospital policies related to medication safety, including order writing format, correct administration considerations, double checks, and other established policies and practices.
  • Anticipate and intervene in an appropriate and timely manner when there are concerns related to patient and staff safety.
  • Consistently meet work schedule and role model individualized therapeutic communication based on patient and family psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Coordinate healthcare services with hospital, vendors, physician's offices, and other institutions.
  • Delegate appropriately according to task situation, level of expertise, and function as an independent and supportive team member.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care that recognizes changes in the patient's condition and adapts the plan as needed.
  • Identify areas for professional growth and independently perform a comprehensive assessment to provide the most effective patient care for a given population.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and perform nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients.
  • Provide direct nursing care for specified patients, including appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid, and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed.
  • Provide patient/family education using available resources and seek out additional learning experiences within the practice area.
  • Utilize technology correctly for functions related to patient care delivery, mandatory programs/competencies, and policies/procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree Nursing
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing (Kansas) or compact license
  • CPR/AED/BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
