Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Warehouse Worker to join our team at NMSU. As a Warehouse Worker, you will be responsible for transporting furniture, office equipment, and related items within the university campus and off-campus as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loads and unloads furniture and related materials onto and off trucks, ensuring proper padding and ropes are used to prevent damage.
- Operates forklifts, mechanical lift gates, and mechanical platforms to facilitate loading and unloading of materials.
- Locates and relocates desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, and other related office equipment and furniture.
- Arranges and sets up furniture and related items for classroom and special events use as instructed.
- Operates a large moving truck in the transportation of moving materials, as necessary.
- Performs snow removal, as required.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- May perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.
- May serve as the main contact person in communications with customers regarding work orders.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Eighth grade education or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate mechanical forklifts, lift gates, and platforms.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate a large moving truck.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Working Conditions:
Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, including extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and other potentially dangerous materials/situations that require safety precautions and protective equipment.
Physical Effort:
Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
Lifting Requirements:
Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Risk:
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
