Position Overview:

The Research Engineering Scientist will be responsible for evaluating public water system documentation, reports, and data to ensure adherence to regulatory standards set by the Texas Commission on Water Quality (TCEQ). This role involves providing expert technical support to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess documentation of public water systems in relation to engineering report requirements and the removal of reduced lead and copper sampling; generate water quality reports.
  • Investigate regulations, source water assessments, and protection files, utilizing online mapping tools and resources.
  • Deliver technical assistance to various stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of plans and specifications submitted for approval.
  • Draft formal correspondence regarding plan evaluations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science, public utilities, or a related discipline, accompanied by two years of relevant experience in engineering or technical evaluations of public water systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in the aforementioned fields, along with Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer credentials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive understanding of TCEQ and Environmental Protection Agency regulations pertaining to publicly owned treatment works and pretreatment programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyze and review records effectively.
  • Capability to determine appropriate actions based on findings.
  • Basic data entry skills.
  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Attention to detail in written communication.
  • Physical capability to perform necessary tasks.
