Armed Security Officer Role

As an Armed Security Officer at CHRISTUS Health, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, associates, and visitors. Your primary responsibility will be to provide visible deterrence to criminal activity, while also responding to emergency codes and internal/external disaster events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct frequent security patrols to identify security trends and potential risks.
  • Respond to emergency codes and internal/external disaster events, ensuring the safety of all individuals on hospital premises.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of reported incidents, gathering facts and evidence to support incident reports.
  • Provide security for patients, associates, and visitors, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Protect and patrol hospital buildings, assets, and premises, identifying and mitigating potential security risks.
  • Respond to service requests and enforce facility parking rules, maintaining a safe and secure environment for all.
  • Assist clinical/non-clinical associates with combative patients or visitors, using verbal de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of security equipment and systems, ensuring seamless integration with hospital operations.
  • Promote a safe environment by reporting safety hazards and contributing to a culture of safety and security.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be mentally alert at all times, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures, with a strong sense of judgment and critical thinking.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle personal stress and possible violence, with a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years of armed security experience, with a strong background in law enforcement or healthcare security.
  • Law enforcement experience preferred, with a strong understanding of laws and regulations related to security and law enforcement.
  • Healthcare security experience preferred, with a strong understanding of hospital operations and security protocols.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
  • Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required for positions in Texas.
  • For positions in New Mexico, completion of the New Mexico Private Investigations Advisory Board level three training requirements is required.
  • For positions in Louisiana, completion of 40 hours of training and a letter of authorization to carry a CHRISTUS Health Security assigned weapon while on duty is required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Verbal De-escalation training must be completed within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • IAHSS Basic Security Certification must be completed within one year of full-time employment.
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment and post-offer assessments.
  • Random drug test screening.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute Courses must be completed: IS – 100. c, IS – 200. b, IS – 230. d.
