Job Summary:

As a skilled Ultrasound Technologist at Opelousas General Hospital, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients. Your expertise in performing adult and pediatric echocardiogram ultrasounds, as well as vascular and general ultrasound procedures, will be essential in helping our medical team make informed decisions about patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform all adult and pediatric echocardiogram ultrasounds as directed by the Radiologist, Manager of Medical Imaging, or the Senior Supervising Technologist.
• Recognize the importance of prioritizing patient care and strive to provide the utmost quality as a Staff Technologist.
• Assist in scheduling ultrasound examinations and maintain equipment to ensure quality examinations can be reproduced consistently.
• Present in-service training according to schedule and provide documentation to the Manager of Medical Imaging.
• Call for service on maintenance of ultrasound and other equipment as necessary.
• Clean ultrasound and other assigned equipment, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
• Build rapport with patients to make them feel at ease, explaining the importance of removing metal snaps and jewelry for quality exams.
• Ensure the quality of patient imaging by making proper technical settings on ultrasound equipment.
• Provide the Radiologist with quality diagnostic information, including patient details and technologist initials.
• Complete tasks efficiently, considering time and quality of patient care, and set personal goals to achieve maximum productivity.
• Volunteer assistance in other areas of the department if needed, making it more productive and improving the quality of care given.
• Show care in maintaining equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the Medical Imaging Manager, and removing equipment from use if necessary.
• Assist staff members in keeping the department clean and observe infection control policies and procedures.
• Exercise care in preparing setup procedure trays and materials used in examinations, using approved techniques and materials.
• Ensure all employee/patient-related incidents are reported to the Manager of Medical Imaging or the Senior Supervising Technologist.
• Report allergic reactions to the Radiologist on duty immediately and patient IV problems to the patient's charge nurse/radiology nurse/nursing supervisor.
• Pursue continuing education and obtain required education credits as mandated by credentialing organizations and OGHS, including CPR Certification.
• Participate in the collection of data for QC, QA, and JCAHO Planning, providing data and serving on a team as needed.
• Utilize, follow, and refer to the Policy and Procedure Manual and Procedure Protocol of all modalities, as well as the OGHS Employee Handbook of Personnel Policies.

Education:
Certificate in Ultrasound Program required.
