Position Overview

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is in search of a dedicated Planning Engineer to become a vital part of their Generation Integration team. This role involves overseeing technical evaluations related to the connection of new generation, transmission, and load facilities to the New York State transmission network. The Planning Engineer will also work closely with various departments to compile reports, address inquiries, and assist in the creation of numerous documents.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assess proposed project infrastructures and designs for interconnection
  • Develop foundational cases for interconnection assessments
  • Facilitate technical evaluations for interconnection studies
  • Analyze system enhancement needs and formulate cost projections
  • Draft interconnection study reports and associated documentation
  • Lead discussions in project study meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory; a Master's degree is advantageous
  • A minimum of two years' experience in power system planning or design is essential
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Power Flow, Transfer Capability Analysis, Stability, and Short Circuit is required
  • Understanding of reliability standards and practices is crucial

Additional Skills:

  • Capability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents
  • Intermediate proficiency in Windows operating systems and MS Office applications
  • Strong grasp of advanced mathematical concepts
  • Ability to employ logical and scientific reasoning in problem-solving

Work Environment:

The role necessitates the ability to communicate effectively, engage in physical activities such as standing, walking, and sitting, and utilize hands for various tasks. Occasional lifting and travel may be part of the job. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Compensation Range: $74,000—$123,600 USD
