About the Role:

The Mobile Diesel Technician is a key member of our team at Rush Enterprises, Inc., responsible for maintaining the fleet of vehicles for our clients and handling service calls at their locations. This role requires exceptional customer service skills, as you will be interacting with customers to provide service and resolve any issues that may arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all aspects of equipment according to company standards, ensuring that vehicles are in good working condition and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as filling tanks with fuel, checking oil levels, and keeping vehicles clean, as well as conducting regular inspections and documenting results.
  • Manage inventory control on the service truck, ensuring that it is properly stocked with necessary tools and parts.
  • Report to the Service Manager and receive daily assignments, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
  • Be available for after-hours service calls and maintain an open work schedule to accommodate customer needs.
  • Maintain and inventory the supplied tools for the work required in maintaining diesel engine trucks and associated equipment.
  • Read job orders and observe vehicles in operation to determine malfunctions and plan work procedures.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to determine malfunctions and perform correct repair procedures, referencing technical information as needed.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with injectors, pistons, liners, camshafts, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fan hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, batteries, and transmissions.
  • Perform all necessary diagnostic and documentation functions on the company computer system.
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, making adjustments as needed.
  • Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance work as requested and document results.
  • Submit necessary paperwork or enter information into the mobile service program in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and foster positive customer relations.
  • Advise customers and/or service writers of any repairs or services that should be performed within the next 3 months.
  • Participate in training and utilize that training in the course of work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 5 years' experience as a Class 7 & 8 technician in a dealership or related truck service facility.
  • Current and valid CDL and Medical card as required by the FMVS.
  • Mechanical aptitude and technical ability are essential.
