Pharmacist II Job Description

Overview:

Texas Oncology is seeking a highly skilled Registered Pharmacist to join our team at our 12221 Renfert Way location in Austin, Texas. This position will support our Pharmacy Department and provide exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and dispense medication orders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain and evaluate patient profiles and comprehensive drug data files to evaluate orders for any incompatibilities.
  • Verify patient information and proper physician authorization, checking all orders for completeness and insurance approval.
  • Admix drugs as ordered by physicians, preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Ensure correct preparation of all formulas or medications, checking all prescriptions for completeness and calculating correct dosages.
  • Organize and direct technician workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Provide pharmacological information, answering questions and requests of healthcare professionals and patients, and document drug counseling to all patients.
  • Ensure all legal and professional requirements are adhered to, including controlled substances, and consult with patients to determine pre-existing conditions to assess medication compatibility.
  • Participate in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs, properly disposing all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs, and cleaning the hood daily and in between I.V. admixturing.
  • Log and date all drugs used, checking drugs monthly for outdates, and keep accurate temperature logs.
  • Assist with inventory control of medications, ordering supplies and medications, receiving and shelving medications, and ensuring standard drug supplies are in adequate supply in all departments.
  • Prepare labels, files, and prepares billing, computing prices, and receives new drug education from drug representatives, remaining abreast of new information.
  • Prepare reports and monitoring activities as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy and current state licensure.
  • Position is entry-level and requires 0-3 years of experience as a registered pharmacist.
  • Oncology background preferred.
  • Current license as a Pharmacist in the state of practice.
  • May supervise the activities of pharmacy technicians.

Physical demands of this job typically require full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to read and note appropriate measurements. Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time, occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs, and requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
