Position Overview

The Casual Sonography Specialist will conduct both fundamental and advanced obstetric and pelvic diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including transvaginal ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, and umbilical Doppler assessments.

Reporting Structure

This role will report directly to the Sonography Operations Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

To excel in this position, an individual must effectively carry out the following essential duties:

  • Oversee the ultrasound department during independent work and engage in debriefing sessions with the Sonography Operations Supervisor as necessary.
  • Welcome patients, clarify the ultrasound process, and address any inquiries.
  • Select the appropriate ultrasound machine and probe to gather the diagnostic information requested by the referring physician.
  • Assist Obstetricians and other specialists during invasive procedures, such as amniocentesis and sonohysterograms.
  • Generate and assess ultrasound images and related data utilized by OB/GYN physicians for medical diagnoses.
  • Prepare preliminary diagnoses by identifying abnormal conditions for the OB/GYN physician's review.
  • Utilize ultrasound equipment and support providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Educate patients about the procedures performed and communicate relevant information as anatomy is visualized on the display screen.
  • Recognize cross-sectional anatomy and differentiate between normal and abnormal structures, providing assessments regarding pathology.
  • Deliver preliminary reports of sonography examinations for the interpreting physician's use.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as an OB Ultrasound Sonographer is required.
  • Completion of an accredited program in ultrasound technology recognized by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or an equivalent program is required. Must remain compliant with all ARDMS regulations.
  • Graduation from an AMA-approved program in diagnostic ultrasound technology is preferred.
  • Maintain current ARDMS certifications.
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate is required. Current ARDMS certification in abdomen and/or OB/GYN is mandatory.
  • Certification in Nuchal Translucency/1st trimester screening is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
  • Proficient in using ultrasound equipment to perform sonography examinations in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.
  • Strong adherence to procedures and protocols is essential.
  • Experience with computers and software applications is necessary.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with basic office equipment are necessary.
  • Must be organized, capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and paying close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team is essential.
  • Must demonstrate responsibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to professional development.
  • Self-motivated to enhance knowledge and understanding of evolving procedures in the field of Women's Health and infertility.

Language Requirement - Proficiency in English is required. Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.

Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear; must be able to lift objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment - Primarily in a typical office and/or home setting with a quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. Potential exposure to hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids necessitating adherence to Universal Precaution procedures. Opportunity for a hybrid work schedule - remote and onsite as needed.

Compensation: $45-$58/hourly
