Position Summary
This position is situated within the Department of the Interior, Office of Aviation Services (OAS), Aircraft Maintenance Division. The role involves serving as a qualified inspector/mechanic responsible for the maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, alteration, and airworthiness return to service of the DOI's light piston-powered aircraft fleet.

Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform a variety of essential tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting inspections, repairs, and alterations on certified light general aviation piston-powered aircraft.
  • Performing periodic maintenance and inspections in compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Diagnosing and resolving aircraft system malfunctions using diagnostic equipment and technical documentation.
  • Ensuring all maintenance actions are documented and comply with applicable regulations.
  • Collaborating with pilots to understand and address aircraft discrepancies.
  • Evaluating the impact of repairs on aircraft systems and structures.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A current FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Rating and Inspection Authorization (IA) privileges, or the willingness to obtain IA within six months of employment.
  • Experience in inspecting and approving maintenance actions performed by other mechanics.
  • The ability to interpret technical instructions and specifications.

Working Conditions
The work environment may include exposure to varying weather conditions and requires physical stamina to perform tasks such as lifting and climbing. The incumbent must be capable of working in potentially hazardous conditions while adhering to safety protocols.
