Overview

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing essential support in the care and treatment of patients or residents, adhering to established protocols and procedures. The CNA is expected to maintain familiarity with all relevant federal, state, and organizational regulations, laws, and policies, ensuring compliance at all times.

Qualifications

Previous experience with the elderly population is preferred. Must be in good standing on the New York State Nurse Aide Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant, with no records of abuse, mistreatment, neglect, or misappropriation of property or funds.

Educational Background

A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provides routine care for patients/residents under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN.

Assists with personal care tasks such as dressing, grooming, ambulating, toileting, and transferring patients/residents. Aids in meal preparation and distribution of water and other nourishment based on individual patient/resident needs. Monitors and records vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, reporting findings to the supervising nurse. Conducts routine morning and evening care, including skin care assistance. Assists with intake and output documentation, including emptying and measuring drainage containers. Collects and properly labels specimens, ensuring timely transport to designated areas following established protocols. Engages in shift reports, effectively communicating relevant information to incoming staff. Conducts rounds and promptly responds to call lights. Participates in clinical training for new staff and students.

2. Facilitates transportation related to patient/resident care.

Accompanies patients/residents to various departments as needed. Safely escorts discharged patients/residents. Demonstrates proficiency in the safe and effective use of medical equipment.

3. Emergency Preparedness- Shows understanding of emergency protocols and procedures.

Actively participates in emergency preparedness training and drills. Engages in various emergency response drills and actual events.

4. Documentation- Accurately records patient/resident care activities in a timely manner, adhering to facility policies.

Maintains real-time documentation of all patient/resident care activities as per policy. Adheres to infection control standards, providing safe and effective care. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary. Follows hand hygiene protocols diligently. Complies with isolation procedures as required.

The compensation for this role ranges from $17.65 to $27.55 per hour.
