Job Summary

The City of Miami, FL is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of diversified heavy automotive equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, adjust, repair, and service a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy-duty automotive equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul motors of a wide range of automotive fire equipment.
  • Repair, overhaul, and maintain specialized equipment on pumping, ladder, and other automotive fire equipment.
  • Overhaul and service assemblies and accessories such as single and two-speed rear axles, multi-speed transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Change tires and repair flats on a variety of heavy automotive equipment.
  • Operate fuel delivery trucks and deliver gasoline, diesel fuel, and/or miscellaneous lubricants to various city facilities.
  • Operate various types of shop equipment, machinery, precision instruments, specialized tools, and devices.
  • Make tests to locate defects in operation and as a check on repairs before returning equipment back in service.
  • Supervise unskilled workers and make road calls to service equipment in the field.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Completion of a training program at the high school or vocational level on the area of automotive or heavy equipment mechanics.
  • Three to six current Automotive Services Excellence (A.S.E.) or automotive manufacturer certificates in varied automotive specialties.
  • Two years of automotive mechanic experience, one year of which must have been in the maintenance and repair of heavy automotive equipment.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class B) or higher.
