At Sacred Heart University, we are committed to providing comprehensive pharmacy services. Our team supports the community by managing a high volume of prescriptions daily. Our facility includes a fully equipped Emergency Department offering 24-hour emergency care.

We also feature a medical-surgical unit with dialysis services and a PAC-U for minor surgical procedures, ensuring a diverse range of practice settings for our clinical pharmacists.

The role of the clinical pharmacist is integral to our healthcare team.
All pharmacists are required to have BLS and immunization certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Pharmacists in specific units will also need ACLS & PALS certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Select, compound, dispense, and maintain drug therapies and other therapeutic agents as prescribed by authorized medical practitioners, adhering to established standards and age appropriateness.

2. Review patient charts for drug sensitivities, interactions, incompatibilities, and appropriate dosages based on patient diagnoses.

3. Engage with patients and their families to ensure understanding of medications, potential interactions, side effects, and usage instructions; document interactions in patient records.

4. Organize and maintain drug information resources; respond to inquiries from medical, nursing, and other hospital staff.
5. Prepare sterile products for administration; determine preparation, packaging, sterilization, storage, and stability requirements.
6. Research pharmacological information as necessary to confirm treatment appropriateness.

7. Participate in unit dose distribution, intravenous preparation, and clinical rounds as part of the healthcare team; assist in emergency situations with drug therapy.

8. Serve as a therapeutic consultant to medical staff to ensure rational medication therapy.
9. Actively participate in infection control, patient care policy formulation, and drug selection committees.
10. Prepare educational materials and conduct training for community members and staff; assist in the training of pharmacy students.
11. Periodically inspect drugs in clinics and storerooms for adequacy, organization, and compliance with safety standards.

12. Provide primary care for patients with stable chronic conditions and those with acute self-limiting diseases in accordance with established care standards.

13. Maintain accurate stock control records, narcotic records, and inventories to ensure compliance with legal and administrative requirements.
14. Contribute to the development of departmental policies and coordinate pharmacy functions with other agencies.
15. Participate in departmental orientation, on-the-job training, and quality assurance initiatives.

16. Engage in various educational programs to maintain current skills and competencies; discuss performance or training needs with supervisors.

17. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Two years of clinical pharmacy experience preferred.
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy AND/OR Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
Current and active state unrestricted Pharmacy license; Arizona state license preferred.
BLS certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
