Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Research Department Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee research and development initiatives with cross-functional teams.
  • Identify emerging technologies, formulate project proposals, and secure support from stakeholders.
  • Evaluate new technologies for diverse applications including power supplies, grid-connected converters, UPS systems, EV chargers, and motor drives.
  • Coordinate the preparation of project proposals for external funding opportunities.
  • Establish technical specifications and innovate new designs.
  • Supervise the design of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards.
  • Oversee the development of firmware for both low and high-level functionalities of power converters.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Lead the creation and testing of simulation models and hardware prototypes.
  • Facilitate the prototyping of test assemblies, conduct experiments, and document test results.
  • Analyze test outcomes and generate comprehensive documentation.
  • Contribute to the preparation of internal and external technical reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Draft invention disclosures and provide technical insights for patent applications.
  • Represent ABB at professional conferences, industry groups, and other relevant events.
  • Engage in strategic planning initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics, or a Master’s degree with significant experience in the field.
  • Proven ability to learn swiftly, collaborate in international teams, and lead projects effectively.
  • Experience in drafting proposals and securing funding for research initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills, with a track record of presenting results and networking.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and prototyping electrical circuits, collaborating with PCB manufacturers.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, probes, and power supplies.
  • Proficient in writing firmware for DSPs, MCUs, and FPGAs using languages such as C, C++, and Verilog.
  • Experience in PCB design.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Must possess valid work authorization to be employed by ABB in the US.
