Role Summary:

The Custodian at Grow Public Schools plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the educational environment. This position involves regular custodial tasks to maintain the Academy and its surroundings. The Custodian will utilize various cleaning equipment and tools, including vacuums, mops, and buffers, to ensure that floors, walls, windows, restrooms, kitchens, carpets, furniture, and outdoor areas are kept in pristine condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily cleaning and mopping of designated areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and supply levels in restrooms as required.
  • Dust and clean horizontal surfaces multiple times each week.
  • Empty outdoor waste receptacles on a daily basis.
  • Assist in preparing facilities for meetings and events.
  • Move furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Secure buildings by locking and unlocking as required, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Keep outdoor areas free from litter and debris.
  • Report maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures relevant to the role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under general supervision.
  • Familiarity with basic cleaning techniques and housekeeping practices.
  • Capacity to follow instructions regarding the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Strong verbal communication skills; bilingual proficiency is a plus.

Experience:

  • Previous custodial or maintenance experience in a commercial or educational setting is advantageous.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform various physical tasks.
  • Capability to remain on feet for extended periods and walk significant distances.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read small print and work with equipment that has moving parts.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Ability to work in environments with elevated noise levels.
