Position Overview
The Surgical Services Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care by employing the nursing process. This includes thorough data collection, assessment, and prioritization of patient needs, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions. The role also involves coordinating patient education and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, analyze data, and develop a tailored care plan.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.
- Act as the primary contact for patient care coordination across various hospital departments.
- Champion patient safety by engaging in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Delegate tasks appropriately, considering the competencies of team members and relevant regulations.
- Manage nursing care within the operating room, ensuring effective communication with the surgical team.
- Monitor the surgical environment to maintain safety and comfort for patients.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, including thorough assessments and discharge instructions.
- Evaluate patient conditions throughout the surgical process to ensure optimal outcomes.
Licensing and Certification Requirements
Current RN License in the applicable state or compact (mandatory)
BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must be obtained from an approved source prior to direct patient care)
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (preferred)
Educational Background
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)
Experience
Minimum of 1 year in Critical Care (preferred)

Working Conditions
May involve high-stress situations and fluctuating workloads. Exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, and hazardous materials may occur. Adherence to universal precautions and use of personal protective equipment is required.
Patient Population
Demonstrates the ability to provide age-appropriate care across various patient demographics, including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
