Position Overview
Telemundo 48 in San Jose, CA, is seeking a Lead Visual Storyteller.
Key Responsibilities:
- Capture local news stories and engage in the editorial process.
- Utilize camera, sound, lighting, and editing equipment to cover live and recorded events.
- Respond promptly to breaking news while collaborating with the assignment desk, reporters, and production teams.
- Maximize the use of station-issued equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
- Demonstrate proficiency in HD lighting, videography, and non-linear editing software.
- Provide training to junior photographers and multimedia journalists in shooting and editing techniques.
- Comply with NBC safety standards and ethical guidelines.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on equipment and vehicles.
- Collaborate with team members to produce compelling daily stories.
- Gather impactful video and sound to enhance newscasts.
- Follow traffic laws while responding to breaking news as directed by the assignment desk.
- Maintain professionalism and respect in public interactions.
- Participate in editorial meetings to gain insights into the overall news process.
- Complete annual safety training.
- Exhibit competitiveness in the field.
- Perform additional technical tasks as required.
- Handle some administrative responsibilities as needed.
- Adherence to Environmental Health & Safety standards.
- 3-5 years of experience in a major market.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Capability to stand for extended periods during breaking news coverage.
- Experience operating live and satellite trucks.
- Familiarity with portable microwave gear.
- Ability to navigate tight spaces for optimal camera shots.
- Proficiency in sitting for editing tasks.
- Bilingual: Proficient in both Spanish and English, written and verbal.
- Understanding of modern news production techniques and technologies.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to assist with administrative tasks.
- Submission of a resume/CV is required for consideration.
- Flexible schedule with availability for 24/7 shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization in the United States.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Exceptional storytelling and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Capability to shoot, edit, and operate an ENG truck simultaneously.
- Proficient in using communication tools to stay connected with team members.
- Strong team player.
- This position requires full-time on-site work at an NBCUniversal-designated location.
