Papillion Recreation Department Maintenance Worker

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Worker to join our team at the Papillion Recreation Department. As a Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of specialized laborer tasks in maintenance services of our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in the construction, remodeling, and maintenance of Papillion Recreation facilities.
- Perform on-going projects, including carpentry, plumbing, office furniture, fixtures, lavatories, concrete, painting, roofing, doors, windows, masonry, appliances, gym equipment, aquatic equipment, fitness equipment, turf equipment, etc.
- Mow, rake, shovel, weed, empty garbage, paint, vacuum, sweep, and load and unload materials, etc.
- Operate small tractors, gators, and other city vehicles of varying sizes.
- Operate and maintain hand tools and small power tools.
- Maintain equipment in clean and safe condition; operate equipment safely and with care at all times.
- Identify safety-related issues and ensure that safe conditions prevail in all recreation facilities.
- Attend training on various maintenance aspects of the job, such as aquatic maintenance operations, aquatic CPO and AFO certifications, HVAC systems, turf equipment operation, etc., as required.
- Identify and purchase materials for job assignments when authorized.
- Assist with set-up, operation, and cleanup of special events in a timely manner.
- Assist building users with equipment needs or other set-up questions.
- Remove snow, dirt, and debris from sidewalks or parking lots as necessary or as directed. Disperse salt as necessary or as directed.
- Provide assistance and guidance to facility users as needed.
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with larger seasonal cleaning jobs.
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with seasonal decorations.
- Clean and report graffiti, vandalism, and other incidents.
- Assist facility managers with various daily tasks as needed, such as changing light bulbs, painting, unclogging sinks, etc.
- Maintain accurate records of janitorial and maintenance supplies received and used, and notify the supervisor of deficiencies in supplies.
- Conform to the building uniform and dress code policy.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers.
- Comply with City and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with completing various building and facility maintenance forms and reports.
- Respond to calls from the security provider as directed.
- Willing to work flexible hours with some evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
- Familiar with basic OSHA standards and safety practices.
- Knowledge of turf, grounds, landscaping design, buildings, preparation of chemical use and clean-up as well as pesticide application practices.
- Some knowledge of plumbing, masonry, electrical, painting, and HVAC as well as light construction and remodeling.
- Knowledge of semi-skilled maintenance and safety procedures of public facilities.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to accept direction, attend to detail, follow through independently, and work at a fast pace.
- Ability to physically perform the duties required.
- Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment.
- Ability to work independently and react quickly to problem-solving situations.
- Ability to consistently project a positive, patient, caring, and energetic demeanor.
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public who may or may not act with regard to manners or courtesy.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be a self-starter and have a strong work ethic.
- Must be able to provide extraordinary customer service.
- Must be friendly, outgoing, and able to positively represent the Recreation Department at the public level.
- Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire.
- Must be 18 at the time of hire with a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Previous janitorial or maintenance work experience, preferably in a public facility or any satisfactory combination of experience and training preferred.
- Parks and recreation and/or maintenance certifications desirable.
