We are seeking a highly skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team at Heritage Southwest Intermediate School District. As a key member of our Student Support Services team, you will play a vital role in supporting students with visual impairments to navigate their educational environment with confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments
- Provide training and support to students on independent travel skills, including use of canes, guide dogs, and other adaptive devices
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure seamless integration of orientation and mobility services into the student's educational program
- Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A strong background in orientation and mobility, with experience working with students with visual impairments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, with a flexible and patient approach
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
