We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant to join our team at the May Institute. As a key member of our educational support staff, you will play a vital role in helping individuals with Autism and developmental disabilities achieve their goals and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with lead teachers to develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student.
- Provide direct support to students with personal care tasks, behavioral crises, and classroom activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Utilize positive behavior support strategies to cultivate essential social skills, enhance communication abilities, and promote independence among students.
- Cultivate a warm and supportive atmosphere that values and respects each student's journey of learning and growth.
- Document student progress and maintain open lines of communication with parents, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Age requirement: Must be 18 years or older to be eligible for employment.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Driver's license: Valid and current U.S. driver's license required.
- Availability: Monday through Friday 8am-4pm (some flexibility available). FT and PT opportunities. This is a year-round program, including summers.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and empathy towards individuals with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
- Qualities: Reliability, compassion, and patience, coupled with a genuine passion for making a positive impact in people's lives.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to varying needs, preferences, and communication styles of those we support.
- Flexibility: Capacity to adapt to changing environments and respond effectively to unexpected situations.
- Competitive hourly rate of $23.00 with a $.50 increase after six months.
