POSITION SUMMARY
The Surgical Nurse First Assistant provides critical support to surgeons during procedures, engaging in the intra-operative phase by managing draping, suturing, clamping, and ensuring optimal exposure of the surgical area. This role requires proficiency in assisting with various surgical procedures across diverse patient demographics and surgical techniques, including robotic surgeries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Document patient care information accurately in electronic or paper medical records.
- Utilize effective interviewing techniques to gather patient history and deliver appropriate interventions.
- Identify and adhere to care standards relevant to the patient population.
- Deliver care using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Administer medications safely and accurately, demonstrating knowledge of dosages.
- Evaluate care outcomes to ensure patient needs are met.
- Complete all charting thoroughly and legibly.
- Provide constructive feedback on issues and participate in problem-solving.
- Manage care assignments efficiently and communicate effectively with oncoming shifts.
- Maintain responsibility for personal learning and attend relevant training sessions.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist as required.
- Serve as a mentor for new staff and students, assessing their clinical and technical skills.
- Maintain communication with patients and their families throughout the care continuum.
- Be available for on-call duties as necessary.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN or APRN license in the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in perioperative nursing, demonstrating proficiency as both a scrub and circulating nurse.
- Completion of a Registered Nurse First Assistant course approved by the Florida Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a recognized provider.
- Proficient in the nursing process with relevant healthcare experience.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
