The Oklahoma City Innovation District is seeking a dedicated Facilities Technician to ensure optimal functionality of building and equipment systems. This role is crucial for maintaining seamless operations that support the District's event programming and the mission of the biomanufacturing training center (BioTC Oklahoma) in cultivating a skilled workforce in the biopharmaceutical sector. This is a full-time, salaried position requiring 40 hours per week.
The Innovation District, established as a 501(c)(3) organization, spans 1.3 square miles and serves as a hub for collaboration, innovation, and economic development in historic Northeast Oklahoma City. It is home to a diverse array of organizations across various sectors, including healthcare, bioscience, aerospace, specialized manufacturing, academia, technology, and energy. The District is committed to fostering cross-industry collaboration to drive new ideas, business creation, and job growth, thereby enhancing Oklahoma's economy.
BioTC Oklahoma is a cutting-edge workforce training facility focused on the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry. The center aims to bolster U.S. resilience by expanding domestic production capabilities for essential goods while also contributing to regional economic growth. It provides access to specialized equipment, simulated environments, and a curriculum designed to equip trainees with the competencies required in the latest industry practices and technologies, facilitating pathways to industry-recognized credentials.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree in electro-mechanical technology, instrumentation, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting building mechanical systems, as well as lab, medical, and/or manufacturing equipment, including:
- Experience in monitoring and resolving issues with facility infrastructure such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and compressed air systems.
- Familiarity with specialized bioprocessing and laboratory equipment, including bioreactors, chromatography systems, autoclaves, incubators, and industrial refrigeration systems.
- Experience with the receipt, setup, and initial qualification of lab and manufacturing equipment is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Facilities Technician will oversee the operation and maintenance of Innovation Hall, along with the calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment and facility systems for the training center. This role is vital in ensuring that building utilities, laboratory equipment, and educational technologies are functioning effectively to support the District's event programming and hands-on workforce training, including:
- Daily monitoring of building operation systems.
- Leading installation and qualification efforts for new lab equipment prior to use.
- Developing procedures and maintenance manuals for equipment and instrumentation.
- Creating and maintaining an asset tagging system to identify, classify, and manage inventory of all equipment and critical lab assets.
- Establishing a maintenance scheduling system and coordinating necessary repairs.
- Implementing a preventative maintenance program and troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Repairing equipment and systems or collaborating with vendors and contractors for repairs.
- Ensuring adherence to safety practices, including machine guarding and lockout/tagout during maintenance activities.
- Maintaining an inventory of spare parts and responding to urgent repair requests to minimize downtime.
- Developing safety protocols to ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies.
- Participating in meetings regarding program scheduling and assisting with event setup as needed.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong hands-on skills for preventive maintenance and the ability to react swiftly under pressure.
- Mechanical aptitude with the capability to read schematics, specifications, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Proficiency in general computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and patiently.
- Exceptional time management skills and the ability to multitask and work independently.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Close collaboration with other team members to support events and programming.
- Willingness to perform additional duties and special projects as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Willingness to stand for extended periods.
HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- This is a full-time position requiring 40+ hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional nights and weekends.
- Compensation ranges from $70,000 to $80,000, depending on experience.
