Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team at The J.R. Simplot Company. This role will be responsible for managing an environmental compliance program under senior management direction, specifically related to the implementation of the RCRA (hazardous waste) consent decree (Bevill consent decree) in both the production plant and gypsum stack areas.

The successful candidate will implement environmental compliance strategies, including policies, procedures, and systems to maintain and enhance environmental performance. They will collaborate with internal stakeholders, including engineering and operations, to improve monitoring, automated controls, and other systems to ensure environmental compliance.

This role will also work with all necessary stakeholders to understand production plant operational areas and process flows. They will coordinate root cause analysis for compliance incidents and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.

The Environmental Compliance Specialist will be the liaison between the environmental, operations, engineering, and maintenance departments regarding Bevill and will be the subject matter expert for the facility. They will partner with the business to work through complex environmental situations, support and offer guidance across the enterprise as needed, and support strategies aligned to sustainability efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain environmental compliance measures required under the Bevill consent decree.
  • Interact with local regulatory and/or government agencies to ensure environmental compliance at the plant, gypsum stack, and/or project level.
  • Stay informed of new developments in regulatory changes in environmental requirements.
  • Lead and/or assist in leading compliance projects throughout the plant and/or gypsum stack.
  • Prepare budgetary and detailed cost estimates, economic analyses for projects, and appropriation requests.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4-year college or university preferred.
  • 5+ years related experience and/or training.
  • Environmental expertise in industrial and/or consulting fields preferred.
  • Experience interfacing with and ability to maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Project management experience.
