At Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, we are committed to providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will play a vital role in our team, working with patients to diagnose and treat speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders.

Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and treat speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders.
  • Obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine the appropriate tests to perform.
  • Determine the cause, history, and severity of the disorder by a thorough chart review, patient, physician, medical professional, or family interview.
  • Administer, score, and interpret formal and informal assessments to determine the type and level of dysfunction.
  • Identify the need for referral to another discipline or medical professional.
  • Educate the patient and family members as to the nature and extent of the disability, the prognosis for improvement or recovery, and ways to facilitate the recovery within the scope of practice.
  • Implement treatment plans for individuals with the disorders.
  • Plan, direct, and conduct individualized rehabilitation and counseling programs to treat disorders.
  • Determine measurable and realistic goals.
  • Modify treatment plans based upon patients' progress toward goals.
  • Design therapeutic interventions to restore, produce, improve, or conserve communication or swallowing efficiency in a manner that is both effective and sensitive to the patients' specific needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Maintain records as required by law, policy, and Medicare regulations; provide documentation for patient records, including diagnostic findings, therapy plans, goals, and progress notes.
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to implement and coordinate treatment; determine the need for referral to another discipline.
  • Maintain patient and environmental safety.
  • Use equipment ordinarily encountered when performing the job.
  • Provide information, education, and training relating to Speech-Language pathology.
  • Participate in care conferences, staffing, and discharge planning.
  • Document diagnostic findings, therapy plans, goals, and progress notes per department policy.
  • Develop and present in-services and other educational programs for the department, hospital, and community.
  • Train and supervise graduate students as assigned.
  • This position is a casual (non-benefited) day shift position.
Qualifications:
  • More than one up to seven years of related work experience required, demonstrating a broad and detailed knowledge of job responsibilities and methods.
  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • Must demonstrate a broad and thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of an occupational field or professional discipline, and their application in the work setting.
  • IDPR licensure required within 9 months of employment.
  • CCC-A within one year of employment.
