Position Summary: The Dirt Foreman is responsible for overseeing the construction crew and managing the associated materials and equipment. This role ensures adherence to project specifications and timelines, focusing on dirt work operations.
Required Certifications: Valid Driver's License, OSHA 10/30 Certification, First Aid, and CPR Certification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily job safety analyses to identify and mitigate safety risks, ensuring a secure working environment for all crew members.
- Efficiently manage and supervise the activities of the crew.
- Direct and facilitate the training, evaluation, and assignment of tasks to crew members.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of project plans and specific responsibilities.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications accurately.
- Oversee the management of tools, materials, and supplies.
- Ensure optimal utilization of equipment.
- Address production issues on-site promptly.
- Accurately report crew hours and code time on daily timesheets.
- Contribute to the overall improvement of company operations.
Qualifications:
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting unsafe practices to the Safety Representative or supervisor.
- Engage in proactive teamwork to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
- Exhibit leadership qualities by setting an example and sharing expertise with others.
Language Proficiency:
- Ability to read basic two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences in words and numbers.
- Capable of writing and speaking simple sentences.
Mathematical Competence:
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Skilled in calculating rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as interpreting bar graphs.
Reasoning Skills:
- Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
- Capable of resolving issues involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Safety Compliance: The employee must be knowledgeable about and adhere to the company's safety policies and procedures as outlined in the safety manual.
Education: Less than a High School Diploma.
Experience:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in highway and road construction is required.
- 4-5 years of experience in dirt work is essential.
Physical Demands: This position requires heavy physical activity involving strenuous tasks of a primarily productive or technical nature.
Manual Dexterity: Sufficient manual dexterity to handle items and work with fingers, with the ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
Working Conditions: The role involves outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing essential job functions.
