Teaching Opportunity in Arabic Language and Culture

We are seeking a highly qualified instructor to teach Arabic language courses at the University of South Carolina. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Semitic languages and experience teaching Arabic as a foreign language.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach introductory through advanced Arabic language courses in Modern Standard Arabic and conversation classes in an Arabic dialect (Egyptian or Levantine preferred)
  • Maintain an excellent record of teaching while actively engaging in various instructional responsibilities and participating fully in program affairs and services
  • May be assigned service duties, dependent upon the applicant's experience and departmental needs
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Semitic Languages, Arabic, or a related field, in hand by August 16, 2024
  • Evidence of two years of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level of Arabic as a foreign language
  • Native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and at least one Arabic dialect (Egyptian or Levantine preferred) and English
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Semitic Languages, Arabic or a related field
  • Ability to also teach Hebrew and Biblical Hebrew
