The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Social Services Director to lead our team in delivering exceptional social services to our community. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the administration of all social service programs within the department.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and supervise the administration of all social service programs, including emergency shelters, family crisis intervention, transitional living shelters, and domestic violence shelters.
  2. Supervise, plan, assign, coordinate, and monitor the work of all staff working for the Social Services Department, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  3. Supervise, review, monitor, and audit all program records and client files, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
  4. Administer the FEMA program and all other rent and utility assistance programs, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  5. Supervise and monitor the maintenance of social service buildings and equipment, ensuring facilities are well maintained and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  6. Coordinate and monitor The Salvation Army purchases from the food bank, ensuring that all program kitchens serve nutritional meals.
  7. Write and submit grant proposals for social service programs, process and implement contracts upon approval, and ensure department operations are in compliance with contract restrictions.
  8. Prepare and propose departmental budget, reviewing budget regularly to track funding and expenditures in order to determine compliance with budget projections and constraints.
  9. Supervise and monitor the day-to-day operations of the departmental office staff, developing and securing necessary office equipment and resources.
  10. Develop and administer a volunteer staffing program networked through existing community affiliates.
  11. Supervise, coordinate, and monitor various special and seasonal projects, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, summer camps, college intern programs, etc.
  12. Review and monitor monthly statistics representing department services, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  13. Research and prepare various departmental reports for internal use as well as those required by grant contracts, United Way, utility companies, etc.
  14. Plan and facilitate staff meetings for all employees, assisting employees in resolving operational problems and responding to questions, ensuring all employees maintain awareness of program policies and procedures.
  15. Perform community relations functions to promote programs by speaking to groups and coordinating volunteer efforts, serving as The Salvation Army representative with the media, serving as member of various community agency boards as requested, and serving as liaison to the United Way.
  16. Perform crisis intervention counseling for walk-in clients, focusing on the immediate problem and assessing the situation, determining their motivation for help, and designating appropriate resources for referral for short-term and/or long-term counseling and additional services.
  17. Attend professional conferences and seminars and read professional journals to maintain awareness of modern and effective social service program development/administration techniques.
  18. Develop and maintain procedural manuals for all social service programs.
