The Billings Gazette, a prominent voice in Montana's largest city and one of the few remaining seven-day print newspapers in the western United States, is in search of a dedicated and innovative journalist to establish a focus on schools and educational issues.

As the largest K-12 school district in the state is based in Billings, the current challenges and future aspirations of this district are crucial narratives we aim to explore.

The other significant aspect involves the happenings within our educational institutions—focusing on literacy, learning, and student engagement. We aspire to craft compelling narratives about educators and learners, rather than merely reporting on policies and political matters.

We seek a journalist who can quickly integrate into our team, cultivate relationships, connect readers with unseen stories, and write with confidence and clarity.

This full-time role within our digital-first newsroom will offer opportunities to produce daily news, delve into issues and trends affecting Montana families, and cover local happenings.

The Gazette is part of a network of five Montana newsrooms under Lee Enterprises, alongside a Capitol bureau in Helena. This collaboration allows reporters more time to focus on comprehensive and impactful stories.
