Job Goal:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Services, the Physical Therapist will enhance the educational experience of students with disabilities or physical challenges by developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive physical therapy program. This includes providing screening, evaluation, and intervention services tailored to individual needs.
Qualifications:
- Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited physical therapy program.
- Doctor of Physical Therapy preferred.
- Prior experience in a pediatric or educational setting is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and oversee the physical therapy program within the district, including establishing philosophy, vision, procedures, and objectives.
- Assess the physical therapy requirements of students through appropriate evaluations and observations.
- Communicate assessment results effectively to parents and educational staff.
- Contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Formulate and execute intervention strategies.
- Create physical management and environmental modification plans for classroom activities and train staff on their implementation.
- Plan for student transitions from school to community settings, ensuring independence from therapy services when appropriate.
- Monitor and report on student progress.
- Collaborate with parents, school personnel, and healthcare professionals to address the physical therapy needs of students.
- Serve as a resource for parents and staff regarding disabilities and their educational impacts.
- Work with community therapists and healthcare providers to ensure effective physical therapy service delivery.
- Evaluate the need for assistive technology and recommend appropriate solutions to promote student independence.
- Assist in planning for the safe transportation and emergency evacuation of students with disabilities.
- Document services provided and maintain records in compliance with district policies and legal regulations.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services and other designated administrators.
- Utilize standard office equipment and travel as necessary within the district.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants as required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of physical therapy principles, methods, and evidence-based practices.
- Familiarity with pediatric practice areas, including child development and specific diagnoses.
- Ability to apply differentiated instruction based on individual learning styles.
- Proficiency in data analysis and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws regarding education and physical therapy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
- Ability to build and maintain cooperative working relationships.
