Position Overview
The Manufacturing Test Engineering division at Square plays a crucial role in ensuring that the multitude of hardware products produced in our facilities adhere to design specifications and fulfill customer expectations. Our team comprises a diverse array of engineers who leverage their varied backgrounds to tackle complex challenges within our manufacturing environment. We engage in electrical engineering, software development, mechanical design, and data analysis to interpret the design objectives of our products and translate them into effective testing protocols. We pride ourselves on our comprehensive understanding of Square's hardware offerings.
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a seasoned manufacturing test engineer to oversee factory testing and development for Square's most intricate product to date. You will report directly to the Manufacturing Test Engineering manager and collaborate closely with Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Software teams to create, construct, and maintain testing stations operational in Square's global manufacturing sites.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, constructing, and maintaining both board-level and product-level performance and functional testing systems.
- Developing and troubleshooting software for testing stations.
- Interpreting the significance of the data collected by our testing stations and providing insightful analysis back to our hardware design teams.
- Gaining an in-depth understanding of Square's hardware products and manufacturing methodologies.
- Investigating technologies for our upcoming hardware innovations.
- Creating test plans and prototype setups for new technologies.
- Collaborating with Square's Electrical Engineering team to ensure our product circuits are optimized for testing.
- Working alongside Square's Software Engineering teams to define requirements for embedded testing access and APIs.
- Proactively seeking opportunities beyond the Manufacturing Test scope to enhance Square's products.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical domain.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, Labview, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of statistics and experience with data visualization tools like SQL, JMP, or Matplotlib.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment for testing, measurement, and prototyping (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters).
- A passion for applying systematic engineering problem-solving techniques to tackle challenges beyond your immediate expertise.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex information to audiences with varying technical backgrounds.
- A willingness to travel internationally, up to 15% as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in reading and interpreting electronic circuit diagrams and schematics.
- Familiarity with board-level (SMT) and product-level (FATP) electronics manufacturing processes.
- Experience in performing analog measurements (RF, acoustic, optical, etc.), including calibration and control of systematic errors.
- Experience managing contract manufacturing test engineering partners to facilitate GR&R, DOE, and Factory Test Dry Runs in preparation for prototype NPI builds.
- Experience in driving yield and cycle time improvements.
- Ability to produce clear documentation (Build Reports, Station Issue Lists, Material Issue Lists, SOPs).
