Ophthalmic Technician

Midwest Vision Partners is seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in the care of patients in a clinic setting. Your primary responsibilities will include greeting patients, explaining what they should expect during their appointment, and escorting them to an exam room. You will also perform diagnostic ophthalmic tests and procedures, such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry, prior to the physician seeing them. Additionally, you will assure accurate notes and updates to patient charts/records and maintain a clean and organized clinic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Interact with patients to gather information and enter it into our electronic medical records system.
- Proactively engage patients in communicating what to expect with the visit and continue to communicate delays or any other changes with the patient.
- Initiate and perform documentation of the patient's chief complaint, and present illness, and capture past medical history.
- Accurately record all information in the EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
- Conduct tests and measures eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
- Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
- Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments in an exam room or treatment room, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
- Educate patients regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post-operative instructions, as directed by physicians.
- Readily scribe for physician.
- Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential, following all HIPAA requirements.
- Utilize effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate any dissatisfied patients.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications.
- Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions.
- Assist team members and complete other special projects as requested.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift to 50lbs.
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Entry Level.
- Typical has 0-3 years of Experience.
