Computed Tomography Technologist

Under the guidance of experienced professionals, this role provides patient services using advanced imaging modalities. The Computed Tomography Technologist performs a variety of CT procedures on patients of all age categories, evaluating images for technical quality and exercising professional judgment in the performance of duties. This position requires a strong understanding of patient care and the ability to recognize conditions requiring immediate action.
Essential Responsibilities- Uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Provide exceptional patient care, maintaining a professional behavior toward members and coworkers.
- Recognize the impact of cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient conditions and make accommodations accordingly.
- Deliver services to patients of all age categories, demonstrating an understanding of their cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process.
- Exercise clinical judgment that conforms to established standards, documenting clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
- Observe all organizational, regional, medical service area, and Diagnostic Imaging department policies and procedures.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and work areas in accordance with department guidelines.
- Perform essential clinical duties and responsibilities, including explaining procedures to patients, verifying patient history, and confirming appropriateness of ordered exams/procedures.
- Select appropriate software for exams, utilizing various software programs based on imaging principles, area of interest, and patient conditions.
- Position and immobilize patients to obtain diagnostic images, administering contrast media as necessary.
- Recognize adverse reactions or changes in patient condition and react accordingly, observing all standards for radiation safety/protection.
- Utilize scanning techniques, selecting best planes, acquisition methods, and parameters to demonstrate anatomy and pathology in studies.
- Modify protocols as indicated by presence of pathology or trauma.
- Perform special procedures, such as 3-D studies, biopsies, drainage, and aspiration, post myelography, CT arthrography, CT angiography, cardiac gating, and interventional CT.
- Evaluate images on video display screens for diagnostic quality and presence of artifacts, taking corrective action as necessary.
- Photograph/film images/scans using appropriate window/level settings and formats, archiving images and data.
- One-year experience as a CT technologist within the past 2 years or 2 years experience as a staff technologist with successful completion of the department CT training program.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
- Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California) OR Certified Radiologic Technologist - Diagnostic Radiologic Technology Certificate (California)
- Basic Life Support within 4 months of hire
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Computed Tomography from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- N/A
- Two years clinical experience as a Computed Tomography Technologist, preferably in an acute care medical center
- Experience with GE CT scanners
- Additional training in the use and practices of Computed Tomography
- Certificate of advanced qualification: ARRTCT
- Experience with 3D post-processing
- Experience with PACS
- Shift: Graves and every other weekend
