This is a Full-Time, Day shift position at a leading academic medical institution. As part of the University of Chicago Medicine, you will play a crucial role in providing patient-centered care as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Our department is committed to offering high-quality, individualized treatment for patients of all ages, utilizing skilled Registered Respiratory Therapists, advanced technology, and established patient care protocols. We foster an environment that values collaboration, respects diverse opinions, and encourages professional growth, ultimately enhancing the care we provide to our patients.
Position Responsibilities
In this capacity, the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will perform a variety of essential functions, including:
- Administering respiratory care treatments and therapies as directed by physician orders or established protocols, ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.
- Conducting patient assessments to evaluate cardiopulmonary status and implementing appropriate care protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
- Managing non-invasive and invasive ventilation procedures, monitoring patient tolerance, and making necessary adjustments to optimize therapy effectiveness.
- Performing Arterial Blood Gas analysis and troubleshooting equipment as needed, while adhering to quality control standards.
- Facilitating patient transport within the facility while ensuring the integrity of oxygen delivery systems and mechanical ventilation equipment.
Qualifications Required
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
- Possession of a diploma or certificate of completion along with an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from The National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Additional certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program, PALS, or ACLS may be preferred based on patient care area.
Additional Information
This position is classified as Full-Time (0.9 FTE) with a Day Shift schedule. The Respiratory Care Services department focuses on adult patient care.
Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements is mandatory for employment. Proof of vaccination will be required as part of the pre-employment process. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered in accordance with applicable laws. A pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check are also part of the hiring process.
