Job Summary

As an Optometrist at the University of Utah, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical services, including eye exams, vision screenings, and treatment of various eye conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive eye exams to diagnose and treat eye conditions, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
  • Order and interpret vision screening tests to identify potential eye problems.
  • Treat conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis.
  • Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct vision problems.
  • Provide low-vision aids and vision therapy to patients with visual impairments.
  • Diagnose and treat eye conditions in a culturally sensitive and competent manner.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers for patients with diabetic retinopathy.
Requirements
  • Doctorate of Optometry degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Utah.
  • U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency number without any suspension, diminution, or revocation.
  • Qualifications to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs or any similar government-funded healthcare program.
  • Meet recognized standards of medical care and perform activities in accordance with those standards.
  • Qualifications to obtain professional malpractice liability coverage.
