Position Summary:

The Early Childhood Education Specialist is tasked with overseeing a classroom of children aged 3-5 years. This role involves collaboration with a co-teacher to ensure the effective management of the classroom environment. The Specialist will work alongside families and colleagues to foster significant developmental progress for each child, aligning with the United Community Center's objectives for school readiness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize knowledge of child development principles to engage with children and communicate effectively with families and stakeholders.
  • Provide emotional support by creating a nurturing atmosphere, being attentive to children's needs, and promoting self-expression and independence.
  • Establish and uphold a safe and healthy educational setting.
  • Implement behavior management strategies, including setting clear expectations and proactively addressing misbehavior.
  • Encourage family involvement in the early learning process and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Collaborate with Family Advocates to ensure coordinated services that meet the unique needs of children and families.
  • Participate in case conferences as necessary.
  • Enhance classroom productivity and maximize learning opportunities by engaging children through diverse modalities and materials.
  • Provide instructional support that fosters concept development, critical thinking, and high-quality language interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols, ensuring that no child is left unattended.

  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including Excel, Word, and Google Forms.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree and current Wisconsin DPI teacher licensure are mandatory. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate should be self-motivated, able to work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team. Demonstrated multitasking and time management abilities are required.
  • Successful completion of physical exams and background checks is necessary for this role.
  • Local or long-distance travel may be required for work-related meetings and functions.
Physical Requirements:

Maintaining pace with active children necessitates good stamina, with much of the day spent on one's feet. The ability to lift children and handle small items, such as buttons on clothing, is beneficial.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily conducted in an educational environment with moderate to occasionally loud noise levels. The employee will frequently need to stand, walk, and occasionally run in various weather conditions. Responsibilities may occasionally require working in extreme temperatures during outdoor supervision.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while engaging in tasks that require bending and reaching.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend periodically throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and fingers for typing and writing tasks.
  • Ability to work at close visual range for data analysis and extensive reading.
  • Ability to receive and respond to verbal communication.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Standard office equipment used includes telephones, personal computers, printers, and other office machinery.
