Job Title: Emergency Department Technician

Baystate Health is seeking a skilled Emergency Department Technician to join our team at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, MA.

About the Role:

This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. As an Emergency Department Technician, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, performing various technical tasks, and assisting with procedures.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide age-appropriate care to patients, demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages and applying developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.
  2. Monitor basic physiological parameters, taking and recording routine vital signs within the specified timeframe, and reporting any significant deviations in vital signs.
  3. Administer treatments and procedures in accordance with Baystate Health policy and procedures, including changing dressings, providing postmortem care, and assisting with exams and simple procedures.
  4. Assist patients with elimination of body wastes, making available or offering bedpans, urinals, and emesis basins, and accurately labeling and sending specimens.
  5. Perform POC testing, including department-specified testing, ISAT, Urisys, Glucose testing, Pregnancy testing, and all QA associated with the POC testing function.
  6. Assist with treatment by following specified orders as delegated by the RN or provider treatment plans, monitoring patient condition during treatment, and notifying appropriate personnel of unexpected occurrences.
  7. Communicate effectively with team members and patients, interacting with patients in a respectful and informative manner, and clearly communicating information related to patient care.
  8. Initiate emergency procedures, responding effectively in emergency situations, maintaining patient safety at all times, and communicating effectively with appropriate personnel.
  9. Function as a member of the team, assisting team members with clinical activities, providing feedback related to the team process, and assisting team members with non-clinical activities.
  10. Maintain knowledge on current throughput and patient progress initiatives to maximize patient flow in the Emergency department, actively engaging in patient flow initiatives.
  11. Comply with duties and responsibilities, providing for patient safety at all times by maintaining a patient room free of clutter and waste, implementing appropriate safety practices and protocols as per nursing intervention and direction.
Requirements:
  • Direct patient care experience 1-3 years
  • EMT, ED/Urgent care experience or relative experience through the military medical units (Medic/Coreman training) preferred but not required
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR certification
