The Medical Laboratory Technician 2 plays a vital role in ensuring the quality of specimens for laboratory testing, identifying pre-analytical factors that may impact patient results.

Effective communication and teamwork are essential in this position, as the technician works collaboratively with colleagues to optimize job performance and foster positive working relationships.

The technician must demonstrate a strong understanding of operational and regulatory standards, operating systems and methodologies to produce timely and accurate data for patients, quality control, and proficiency testing.

Requirements for consideration:

  • Minimum Education:
  • Associate's degree or 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in biology with the ELIGIBILITY for ASCP Board certification
  • And one of the following:
    • Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science or Accredited Bureau of Health Education Schools accredited Medical Lab Technician program
    • Successful completion of a 50 week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the last ten years.*or three years of full time acceptable clinical experience for eligibility for Medical Lab Technician
    • Other acceptable forms of education/experience will follow the guidelines of ASCP/AMT Board certification

Years of Experience:

  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program, NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program, or a foreign medical laboratory science clinical training program within the 12 months can be used in lieu of one year of full time acceptable clinical experience

Certification:

  • MLT(ASCP) or MLT (AMT)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Floats to other areas to maintain productivity and proficiency
  • Follows site specific standard operating procedures, manuals and instructions; Adheres to laboratory safety procedures and processes at all times
  • Participates in constructive feedback and gives positive reinforcement to coworkers
  • Reports clinical data accurately and efficiently so that care givers receive timely patient information
  • Notifies appropriate individual(s), including technical support, of problems or discrepancies according to established procedures
  • Minimizes department expenses by using resources efficiently while avoiding urgent supply requests and inventory loss due to expiration
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
