Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist will be responsible for initiating physical therapy programs and instructing other personnel and/or family/caregiver members in certain phases of physical therapy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of physical therapy modalities and procedures, as well as excellent communication skills to effectively work with patients, peers, and other healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluates and treats patients referred for physical therapy
Directs and assists patients in a program of strength and flexibility exercises, muscle re-education, transfers, balance training, gait training, pain relief, and orthotic/prosthetic use
Performs physical therapy treatments using heat, cold, water, massage, manual techniques, joint mobilization, electrical stimulation, and other modalities as per training

Evaluation and Treatment:

The Physical Therapist will assess a patient's condition to initiate appropriate treatment or change existing treatment plans. They will use department forms, protocols, and programs to complete evaluations and delegate tasks to Physical Therapist Assistants as needed. The ideal candidate will be able to treat patients in both land and aquatic environments.

Patient Education and Progression:

The Physical Therapist will instruct patients to achieve maximum compliance with treatment programs. They will question patients for understanding, speak in terms appropriate to their level of understanding, and consistently document programs given to patients. The ideal candidate will be able to progress patient treatment to achieve optimal results in a minimal amount of time.

MD Relations and Quality Measures:

The Physical Therapist will communicate with physicians regarding patients and the healthcare system. They will consistently communicate patient conditions to physicians with appropriate documentation and participate in care conferences as needed. The ideal candidate will perform continuing quality improvement activities and program evaluation using predetermined criteria and adapting programs to elicit the best possible patient outcomes.

Required Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a current Physical Therapist license in good standing, CPR/BLS certification, and a graduate degree from an approved PT program. Two years of experience in an outpatient setting and one year in an inpatient or SNF setting are preferred. New graduates are also accepted.
