Surgical Services Director

Welcome to the Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Hospital Association dba Thomas Hospitals team. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Services Director to join our team.

The Surgical Services Director will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and evaluating all elements of financial, material, and human resources in the provision of nursing care to assigned groups of patients in accordance with the service and missions of the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advises the Director on the hiring, retention, interviewing, and recruitment of staff.
  • Initiates and maintains appropriate personnel records.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of on-going educational programs for professional and support staff.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to employees concerning job performance through goal development, peer evaluation, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitors on a continual basis all personnel and current expense budgets.
  • Makes recommendations for preparation of the budget for his/her cost center annually.
  • Assures the most economical utilization of time, materials, and resources.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other personnel in problem identification and resolution.
  • Promotes customer satisfaction through response to customer perceptions of services provided.
  • Serves as a resource to appropriate QI teams.
  • Participates in various activities to assist the Director in the dissemination of necessary information to staff, physicians, and others.

Requirements:

  • Current license to practice Registered Professional Nursing in West Virginia or applicable state where services will be provided.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Four (4) years nursing experience with at least two years management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialty certification desirable.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Skills and Abilities:

The Surgical Services Director must possess excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing and management, with experience in surgical services and operations.
