Machinist II Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist II to join our team at General Dynamics Corporation. As a Machinist II, you will be responsible for completing complex support tasks with minimal supervision, applying extensive knowledge in a specialized function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup and Execution of Machining Operations: Set up and execute machining operations to manufacture parts with close tolerances and critical finishes in ID, OD, and spherical radii.
  • Machine Operation and Maintenance: Operate CNC-based and conventional machinery, lathes, mills, and grinding machines. Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are required and adjust as necessary.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Verify, inspect, and measure parts to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications.
  • Secondary Work and Preparation: Perform secondary work such as deburring and prepare for the next job while the machine is running.
  • Maintenance and Housekeeping: Perform basic maintenance, such as cleaning machines and work areas.

Qualifications:

  • Machinist Certification: Preferred or 6 years of related experience.
  • Measuring Equipment Experience: Experience using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, etc. Ability to work with tolerances less than 0.0005.
  • Mathematical Skills: Expert knowledge and understanding of the application of geometric tolerance symbols. Solid ability to read and follow instructions, including Engineering and CAD drawings. Complex math required, i.e., Trigonometry.
