About the Role

CUES Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of Linux software applications for a networked system of edge nodes designed to inspect underground infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Software Development


• Collaborate with our engineering team to gather and define project requirements.


• Design, code, debug, and verify C++ Linux software applications, APIs, and scripts that meet project specifications.


• Maintain software: update existing software projects as needed to support new features, modify current operation, and/or sustain a product through changes.


• Write technical documentation: document details of the operation of the software and APIs for future reference.

2. Support


• Provide inter-departmental support by assisting with issue identification and resolution affecting production and customers.


• Provide intra-departmental support by generating software for testing and capturing test data within the engineering department.


• Supply regular status updates to engineering teams and management.


• Attend engineering team meetings as required.

3. Continuous Improvement


• Identify opportunities for process or software improvements.


• Collaborate with team members to implement enhancements and streamline workflows.


• Participate in retrospectives and feedback sessions to continuously improve team performance and software quality.

Requirements


• Minimum 8 years' experience in software development.


• Extensive background in systems using Linux as the primary OS.


• Proficient programming in at least two of the following: C, C++, Linux shell scripting (such as bash), or Python.


• Experience in writing robust code that is very reliable and is used in a production environment.


• Experience with standard MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.


• Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.


• Ability to prioritize work according to given deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications


• Years of relevant work experience is preferred.


• Experience with Debian or Ubuntu Linux is preferred.


• Experience with socket-level programming is preferred.


• Experience with vision systems using GStreamer is a plus.


• Experience with QT and QML is a plus.


• Experience with networking is a plus.

Education & Certifications


• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required.

Work Environment


• 8AM – 5PM, Monday – Friday.


• Overtime as necessary to complete projects on schedule.


• Possible travel to customer sites in unique situations.


• Office Environment - ability to use computers and office equipment, light lifting, and other physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions.


• Must be able to grip and operate hand tools.


• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.


• Safety Glasses must be worn at all times when in the production areas.


• Steel toe shoes must be worn at all times when in the production areas.
