Machinist Trainee

The Machinist Trainee position at Mid-State Machine is an entry-level opportunity designed to provide hands-on training and experience in machining processes and techniques. Under the guidance of experienced machinists, the apprentice will learn to operate machinery, perform precision machining tasks, and develop the skills necessary for a successful career in the machining field.

• Assist experienced machinists in operating various types of machines, such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines. Learn to set up and adjust equipment according to job specifications.
• Perform basic machining operations, including cutting, drilling, grinding, and finishing, under supervision. Follow detailed instructions to produce accurate and high-quality parts.
• Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to understand specifications and tolerances for machining tasks.
• Use and maintain hand tools, measuring instruments, and machinery. Follow safety protocols to ensure safe operation and handling of tools and equipment.
• Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of machines and work areas. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
• Keep accurate records of work performed, including time spent on tasks, materials used, and any issues encountered. Provide feedback on training progress and areas for improvement.
• Work closely with other apprentices, machinists, and team members to support production goals and contribute to a positive and efficient work environment.

• High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a vocational program in machining or a related field is a plus.
• Some experience using hand tools.

• Work is typically performed in a machine shop environment. Adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is required.
