Job Description

Timmons Group is seeking a highly skilled Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Group in our Staunton, VA office location. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the daily activities of assigned Survey Instrument Operators to gather and complete assigned engineering and land surveys.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Field Operations Management: Oversees the day-to-day operations of the field crew to provide field data for boundary surveys, topographical, and construction stakeout surveys.
  • Instrument Training and Maintenance: Oversees and trains individuals to operate total station, level, GPS, and data collectors for use in the collection of field survey data.
  • Construction Stakeout: Establishes and sets points on construction stakeout projects, including curb and gutter, drop inlets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, structures, etc.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conducts daily maintenance and upkeep of instruments.
  • Field Notes and Reporting: Provides clear and concise field notes, including sketches.
  • Team Collaboration: Oversees maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicle, and works collaboratively with the team to achieve project goals.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of field survey experience is ideal.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Leica Robotic Total Stations, Data Collectors, and GPS preferred.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and hold a federal security clearance.
  • Transportation Surveying: Experience with VDOT transportation surveying a plus.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to collect field data in an organized, neat, and professional manner for various boundary, topographic, design, and construction staking projects.
  • Technical Proficiency: The ability to compute, process, and map field data will provide the right candidate opportunity and advancement.
  • Software Skills: AutoCAD experience a plus.
  • Driver's License: A valid VA driver's license and a good driving record required.
  • Travel: Must be willing to travel on occasion.
